In e-lotbidder’s second-to-last auction before closing down for redesign later this month, Julia Cook won the Nintendo Wii with her lowest unique bid of £7.00!
Julia said, “I have been so close so many times, and despite having four powercuts in the last hour of the auction, I won the Wii!”
Because there were only two remaining auctions to use up their bids, Julia’s partner James Holden said, “We thought we may as well use them up.
He added, “Even with four power cuts during the final hour, Julia still managed to win it - what were the rest of you doing?!?”
The latest e-lotbidder winner is June Cook from the V-Team, who won the tiny iPod nano MP3 player!
“How do you use it?” June asked, then laughed and said, “No, I’m just kidding, it’s just a family joke!”
The win means two “firsts” for June - her first win on e-lotbidder, for her lowest unique bid amount of £2.27 - and her first MP3 player!
“It’s one of those things I’ve wanted for a long time, but never got round to buying,” June said.
I won this week’s “Where Can u V?” photo competition - wahoo!
This is me pictured on my birthday at the prehistoric stone circle and henge that surrounds the village of Avebury near Marlborough, Wiltshire (UK).
27 years old and running my own online games business - how cool is that!
Our very own Julia Cook from the V-Team was the fourth person in the world to join uVme as an associate!
When asked to comment on this fact she said:
‘It is amazing to think where the uVme business will be in just a few short months from now, with millions of people playing from around the world. To think that I have been part of history by being the fourth person to become an associate, out of the thousands that will soon join is just so exciting!’
Julia is currently relaxing from all this excitment by doing none other than playing games on her own gaming platform…
Mark Davies head of marketing for uVme, interviews James Holden and Hugh Payn on the success of their uVme businesses during the pre-launch, and James expresses his excitement at effectively being paid to have fun!
After seeing [my partner] James’ uVme t-shirt at her 91st birthday party, my Gran, Phyllis, said: “Ooh crumbs, that looks good!” She wanted to have her picture taken doing the “V”, and was so excited to see it on her avatar… “Jigsaw Wars”, watch out! When I arrived at the uVme Game Preview Day at Head Office, the buzz in the air was electric.
Within minutes of playing the games, I knew that I could easily spend all day playing them… and that I did!
It’s a good job this is my work, as I knew from this moment I would never get any done.
I didn’t think the rivalry that day would be so fierce… everyone in the room was playing to win, and even some light-hearted attempted sabotage took place!
Beta-testing with our team has been so much fun. When we contacted one of our Associates to say we were inviting her to take part, she screamed down the phone and shouted, “They have chosen me, they have chosen me!”
Challenging people to a game is brilliant, and I spent most of my time playing Fruit Frenzy, Arcade Ducks and Darts. The background music to the games is very catchy, to the point where I am actually singing along! Or in James’ case, singing it in his sleep!
Not only did I have a really strong desire to win a challenge, but I also found myself constantly trying to beat my own top score. And by doing this I managed to win the beta-testing competition last week (for this Tom and Len sent me a lovely bottle of champagne - thanks guys)!
[Julia had also placed second overall in both the preceding two weeks, and came second in the ladies’ category this week.]
I can honestly say when I am not playing I am getting withdrawal symptoms! I find myself counting the days until I can play again.
The excitement surrounding the games has been absolutely phenomenal, and this is only the beginning…
James Holden from our very own V-Team expresses his astonishment that he will be paid to play the uVme games:

Hooray - she’s done it! After coming in second place for the previous two games testers’ competitions, Julia Cook came in first over this past weekend’s testing session, and wins a bottle of champagne.
When asked what she’d done differently this time to go from her usual second place to first, Julia said, “Just playing for longer, I guess! It’s so addictive, I actually hurt my hand… I’ve given myself RSI!”
Julia said that she found it easy to sit and play for hours. At times, she would sit down for a “quick game” and look up at the clock to find it was 2am!
She said she was challenging “absolutely anyone” - as Neil Verlander had told people in a conference call not to play her, she had difficulty finding anyone who would take her on!
Her favourite games were Fruit Frenzy, Arcade Ducks and Darts.

Also deserving mention are Mark Staten in second place, and Paul Smalldon in third. Mark’s favourite game was Sudoku, and he had a tip for Fruit Frenzy (figure this out yourself): “leave two in a bottom corner”. Paul was stunned that he had placed, and said, “I’m useless at games!” His favourite games were Darts and the “absolutely awesome” Martian Ball. He played everything except Sudoku, and said he had upset his wife by playing the games so much. “Thank you, uVme, for giving me this opportunity to do something I’d never done before - play games!”

I am originally from Hammersmith in London but grew up and live in the beautiful, ancient county of Wiltshire. Wiltshire has the most ancient monuments than any other county in the UK, including Avebury. It is beautiful any time of the year. Avebury stone circle is now considered a more important historical monument than Stonehenge. We live right on the edge of the South Downs which during the winter gales is not so good, and we can hear the guns on Salisbury Plain when the army are on manoeuvres. I have one daughter, a Graphic Designer and Internet Marketer, who is in her twenties.
I spent many years as a Secretary/Personal Assistant in local government, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and in marketing departments of some very interesting large companies. I then temped plus worked for the library service whilst bringing up our daughter.
